Caring for your cartridge: any advice?

    Hi all!

I've been searching on the forum but haven't really found a good answer yet, so here it goes:

I love spinning records on my old beogram 1100. However, its MMC3000 seems to have had its best time, the sound quality is becoming less good (distortion). Luckily I still have a brand new MMC4000!

I'd like to make sure it will last as long as possible, after my MMC3000's time has come. Who has good advice on keeping it in good condition (except for not using it, of course Wink) I found things about trying to lube the suspension to keep it in good condition, anyone who tried this?

Thanks in advance for your advice, I hope this thread is helpful for many other beogram lovers as well!

The important thing is to keep the stylus and the records clean. A good brush is needed. You cannot lubricate the suspension as all that will likely do is weaken the glue and cause catastrophic failure. I would get on and use your 4000 - it is going to be 30 years old and the suspension could well be getting past it already!

I would try to keep the cartidge (and stylus) pressure on a lower setting (if your Beogram allows - most do) so that it presses into the vinyl with less force.  However you do not want it to be so light that it causes the reocrd to skip if you open a door or walk across the room!
