Advice on type of TV to buy BV7 or BV8

    Hello

Just new to your site and forum. I'm keen to buy either a 2nd hand BV7-32 or new BV8-32 and not sure on the pros and cons of each.

Currently have in my formal dining room an old Avant, Ouverture and Beolab 3.

New TV will be for my office/family room (have Macintosh comp) I also have a SkyHD box in the office. Quite like the BV7-32 with 7.1 spk and motorised stand. Or I could buy a BV8-32 and also use my Beolab 3's (plus buy a DVD player).

So 2nd hand BV7 with 7.1 spk (say from Ebay) or new BV8?

And if BV7 which versions should I watch for or avoid?

    many thanks

    John

I would not get one from eBay - go to a recognised re-seller or a local dealer so you get so warranty. There have been quite a few faults noted with the BV7 and that could be a reason it might be on eBay in the first place. The 7 has superior sound to the 8. The 7-32 uses the same basic chassis design as the BV8-40 but the 8-32 uses the same as the BV6 I believe.

Chat to a couple of re-sellers and get their opinions - LCD screens have come on quite a bit recently so in my opinion, a new BV8 will have a better picture than an old BV7. But it depends on how old!

carefull, the new BV7 32 shares the same chassis as the BV8 40 however that is not yet in the market.

Besides picture quality, the biggest drawback of the older BV7 32 is that it doesn't have the HDMI connection that so many devices use these days.

BV8 32 offers one, on the other hand it doesn't support surround.

Note if you have a ton of products to connect to the TV, both may be an unfortunate choice.

I have the BV8 32 and am fine with the single HDMI as I don't use it for other things then Wii, my BC2 and my Apple TV. I still have the HD component connection left so I am not sweating it right now.
