    Newbie questions..

Hi, over the years I have collected a quantity of B&O equipment, but never really tried attaching it fully together as I have not had the remotes to do so. I have now acquired from E-Bay an MCP5000. I have the following bits of equipment:

LX2800 (this ahs an after market remote that I would like to repalce with a proper one!)

    Beocord 5500

    Beomaster 5000

Beocord 91:2 ? I think.. it’s a VHS video recorder with stereo sound if that helps!

How much of this can work with the MCP I have? Obviolsy the BM5000 will but will any of the rest? I also have a 1202 which obviously will not work with the above.

One more question.. the LX2800 has an RS232 interface on it.. what is this for?

Hi Stewart, and welcome to the forum! Smile

I'm afraid the Beocord 5500 is the only piece in addition to the Beomaster that has a chance of working with your MCP. It may be though that the Datalink codes were changed between 5000 & 5500, so I can't be sure about that either. But it's easy to check - just plug it in to the Beomaster and try! You will need to have all seven pins remaining in the plug of the Beocord though, the two Datalink pins (at the ends of the "arc") are removable so they might be missing.

Do you by "RS232 interface" mean the 8-pin DIN connector, not marked as AUX, AMPL, or any kind of A/V connecction? You can connect a serial printer to it and print Teletext pages! Laughing I dunno if that actually is an option, or present in all LX2800's...

By RS232 I mean the conector marked 'RS232'! . Boeworld seems to hint that the 92:1 can work with datalink.. but does not say much about which MCP..

OK, I've never really seen the back of such an LX, just took a look at the user manual. It's probably a service connector for setup at factory or something, or then the round "printer" connector is changed to "RS232" on some versions.

None of the MCPs will control any video products, and the MCP5000 is specifically only for BM5000, and audio units connected to it. The control capability of that VCR just means that it can "talk" with the TV it is connected to.

You can use the 91.2 as a second audio tape player if you want! It connects via the Tape 2 connection and Datalink means you can control it using the Tape 2 source just as any other tape player. Very useful!

OK, good news to the OP then. I should learn to shut my mouth about products I've never used myself! Laughing

Sadly the correct B&O remote for the TV will not work the 5000.  The only "crossover" would be the VHS91.2 which (should) work with the BM5000 as tape 2 or via the TV Scart cable and a Beolink 1000  (or the similar looking but earlier AV control).
