How rare is the Beovision L5500 ?

    Hi there

I was recently given a faulty Beovision L5500 (the budget one without contras screen) made only in 1990. How rare is this Beovision, and is it worth keeping?

    best regards

Not sure of production numbers - but with inferior speakers amd less functions - to help keep the original costs down why would you want to save it when you could pick up a superior LX for next to nothing??

Perhaps if you were a museum trying to keep one of everything B&O - but would that be a model or a trim finish?

LXs are very cheap, and probably becoming even cheaper in time. But it is just my perception that these budget-Beovisions are becoming rare (like on the classic car market, there are loads of MG sports cars and so on, but no one cared to preserve the classic everyday cars for the future).

I'm sure you're right there, but it's still the cheapest model from an expensive brand. If we continue the automobile metaphor, it sounds to me like choosing a 1957 Chevy 4dr sedan with window poles and the smallest six-cylinder, when you could have a V8 two-door hardtop coupe. Except that Chevy was a cheap brand, but you get the point ;)

Re: How rare is the Beovision L5500 ?

True, and I should probably retain from expanding my collection, although it is difficult...I'll keep the speakers and some of the internals, I know Christian (the other one) needs a new Nicam decorder for his LX6000. So it is not totally wasted. But I'll have a hard time throwing the L5500 in the bin tonight, it served my uncle and aunt for 20 years, in the same metallic gray colour as their Beosystam 3500 and their metallic gray RL60s...

By the way, there seems to be a fault en the technical describtion of the L5500 on beoworld (http://www.beoworld.org/prod_details.asp?pid=625) it says the L5500 has a contrast screen, but it does not.

    best regards

Why keep the speakers - they were poor!  Find a couple of good LX5500 and keep the bits from them!

I already got a pair of 2-way speakers but have installet the midrange/woofer from these in the back of my VW Polo (sounds great by the way).

So the Midrange/woofer from the L5500 will be installet in the cabinets from the first pair making them complete again. The only difference to the speakers of the budget L-models was the ommission of tweaters.

    best regards
