    BeoMaster 5 virus vulnerability

Is BeoMaster 5 really so virus protected? If I upload all my CD collection and mp3 files that I have uploaded from the internet to BeoMaster 5 and a virus attacks BeoMaster 5 what happens if the virus programme is not efficient? Doe this mean all my music goes away?

    Re: BeoMaster 5 virus vulnerability

Don't know what kind of software the BM5 uses, but 90% of all virus programms are made for Windows. The other 9,99% is Mac and Linux so the change that there is a special B&O virus is very small.

We Can't Get Enough B&O Stuff...

The Beomaster 5 runs Windows XP (Embedded Version) with Service Pack 2 with integrated firewall and an Antivirus programme with automatic updates provided by BullGuard and includes 5 years of updates.

You can review the Bullguard product HERE

But what about after 5 years? What happens when there is a virus that gets trough the antivirus programme? How can BeoMaster be cleaned from the viruses? Is there a possibility to run a special anti virus programme via the PC or how?

Can a virus in BeoMaster also affect the control - BeoSound 5 as there are for instance cowers displayed etc?

You should avoid using the Web Browsing feature if you are worried of viruses.

Thanks to the Firewall, it is less likely that viruses could enter the system if as you are not going to infected pages.

I see you mean the web function. But one question, would you buy the new BS5+BM5 now, or ruther wait a little while?

The BS5/BM5 that are on display are not the final one, especially in term of software.

I'd want to see the final sofware/feature set before making my choice.

    Re: BeoMaster 5 virus vulnerability

I think there are two factors in play here at present.
First, if you use your BM5/BS5 "correctly" and have it communicate with the B&O server and only approved N.Radio channels as designed, then I see the risk as very very small indeed. If your going to be unwise and use your BM5 for surfing the web, then after 5 years your simply asking for trouble. Use your standard PC for that. It will be better set-uop with mouse, keyboard etc....
The Second factor is if B&O are going to use a standard digital platform with regular updates for most of their new PC-based products, then AV guards will be commonplace and it is highly likely that once you buy a product, it will be protected for the life of that product.

It has to be limited to something (just like spare parts availability is limited). Probably Microsoft has a limit for the support of the underlying OS itself as well, and there's nothing B&O can do about that - when it's gone, it's gone.

Anyway, I would expect the support to continue even longer, as long as it is feasible to do so. And there's nothing preventing you from performing the antivirus tasks yourself. Simply not using the machine to browse stupid web sites goes a long way towards this goal...
