    Beosystem 5500 switching itself off?

I currently have a beosystem 5500 (minus the cd deck)

Now...it hasnt been connected for a few years but after testing it (No speakers) it seems to be working fine although after playing something, tape for example, it switches itself off after like 10 seconds

Is this a fault or have i not connected it all properly? anything to do with having no speakers attached to it?

     Any help is much appreciated

    Regards

Re: Beosystem 5500 switching itself off?

Does it only switch off when using a connected item or does the same thing happen when using just the radio? This should help in identifying if the problem is with the beomaster or tape deck.

I doubt if a lack of connected speakers is causing the problem.

try it with headphones connected - I seem to remember that the system checks to see if there are speakers connected when you power it up so it's possibly a cause.

This is a safety mechanism. The amplifier has a problem probably in the output stage. The system switches off to prevent further damage.

You need to find a service agent who will tackle items of this age.

Pretty sure the idle current setting trimpots in the output stage are shot. Half-an-hour job for someone who knows what he's doing, and parts cost is next to nothing.
