Bringing my Beo Centre 4000 into the 21st Century

    Hi there,

I recently posted  a thread asking how much my Beo Centre 4000 was worth for sale on ebay

    http://forum.beoworld.org/forums/137596/ShowThread.aspx#137596

As far as i can guage its actually really not worth selling such a grand piece of equipmnet for such a small cost so what I would like to do instaed is call upon your expertise to bring this into the 21st century! As the main unit accept an input from the record deck i would like to know if i can change this in any way so as it accepts an input from a television in the form of either a 3.5mm headphone jack or a left and right phono channel?

I have been transferring all my music into iTunes and would like to use an apple tv or an airtunes base station in conjunction with the B&O to give it some more life.

    Can this be done!?

    Thanks

The problem we have here is a lack of inputs. My thought would be that the tape input is the way to go. I will need to check when I get home tonight, but B&O in this era made a lot of Beocenters by simply adding components to existing products. I wonder if the 4000 was similar! There may be a captive DIN socket and plug for the tape section which at a guess you will not use. Tapping into there would be better than having to bypass the RIAA on the phono input. I think I have the service manual for this Beocenter so will have a little look!

Peter's idea of tapping the tape connection is probably the best, if it turns out to be easy as that.

Anyway, it's possible to use the phono input at line level with an inverse RIAA equalizer. As it doesn't require any amplification, it can be a completely passive thing (no power needed) and is easy to construct, if you know which end of a soldering iron gets hot:

It will most probably add some noise because of the unnecessary attenuation/amplification step, but would allow you to connect line level sources without touching the insides of the Beocenter. And you could then still plug in a record player, if needed.

On the other hand, bypassing the internal RIAA preamp might be easy as well. The service manual for the receiver only version (Beomaster 2200) was on site, and in that the tape and phono connectors and the pre-amp are on a separate circuit board which has line level outputs for phono.
