Help - Avant Surround Sound Module

I bought a 28" Avant for my bedroom which had a STB-C installed and Dolby Surround - the Avant in my Living Room did not have a STB-C and was Dolby Prologic - so I took the moved the STB -C to the Avant in the living room and that works fine. However when I installed the Dolby Surround module the TV wouldn't switch on, checked the cables and tried swapping it round but they will only fit one way so that wasn't it. Installed the original Dolby Module and the TV switches on, STB-C works but when I goto Menu, Sound and then speaker I do not get the option to switch the BL4000 speakers on, instead of which I get a menu under speaker which just says Balance rather than allowing me to select speakers etc. etc. Anyone have any ideas on what I've done wrong (I should have stopped at the STB-C!)

I think like with a PC you cannot just install a peripheral and expect it to work without installing software to communicate with it. The same is so with the Avant. The TV was configured to run with the cards already installed in it - not the ones you tried to put in. Thus you will need to upgrade the software in order for the new cards to work. I guess that you may have corrupted the original software.

This is guess work based on another thread with a similar albeit hypothetical problem. I could be wrong although someone will be along to correct me if I am!

Re: Help - Avant Surround Sound Module

I have just swapped a Dolby Prologic module with a Dolby Digital module in my Avant (type 8360 100Hz CTV non RF). It required a software update (2 x ICs) and an extra smd resistor. Maybe it where your problem is...
Send me a PM with your mail an I will send a PDF with installation instructions.

    Best regards
    Rasmus

    Hi all,

    I have just purchased a Bang & Olufsen Dolby Digital Modul # 4019 for Avant in order to replace the current Dolby Surround. I checked the model/numbers and the module should fit well in my Avant. However, as I see in this post it could be I need a sw update;

I would like to ask you for some advices; could you please send the PDF installation instructions of the module?

All the data/details you may need I will provide you with

    Thanks very much in advance

Re: Help - Avant Surround Sound Module

Hello Gerd and rest of forum,

    Thanks for your information,

I finally contacted the B&O technician for the upgrade cause I did not feel comfortable with this particular upgrade (I did not want to ruin the Avant which I consider excellent), and the first test last Friday morning were great (and I only have 2 beolab 8000 not 5.1). FYI, we connected 1 speaker to front plug and the other to the rear. Beovision is Option2 and Beosound3000 is option 0

However, Friday evening something happened. When we turn on the TV pressing 'SAT' the beolab/front speaker produces a very very high noise (something like SSSSTTTTT but really really strong) and the beolab/rear is off. I have disconnected all the speakers and I will reconnect them tomorrow with the 'Y' splitter once I buy it in B&O dealer.

I have think that maybe it is just the fact of having only 1 beolab connected to the front plug instead of 2. Well, I will have an answer by tomorrow. I will keep you inform (maybe with your experience you have seen something like that or you know what could happen).

    Thanks for any help,
    Francisco
