    Beovision 4 progressive scan?

    Hi all,

I was just wondering if the bv4 will ever be upgraded to a full HD 1080p (progressive) panel or if it will be kept at a 1080i (interlaced) panel that uses the visionclear technology to try to compensate for the interlacing.

To me it seems strange that B&O went down the route of using a 1080i in the first place, as the overall screen's motion and picture quality will automatically be poorer than 1080p due to the difference between these 2 scanning modes.

Surely they can just use a better 1080p panel from pansonic, and do away with the visionclear technology that tries to compensate for the interlaced scanning?

    Thanks,

     Beodude

The BeoVision 4 is 1080p, both the 50" and the 65".

LCD/Plasma screens either have enough pixels to display 720p or 1080p.  They can't display 1080i formats natively, as that's just not how they work.  If you feed a tv an interlaced signal, it will have to create a progressive one on the fly using two halves of a frame that weren't processed to appear at exactly the same time - hence quick movement will look a bit rough.

Are you sure the Beovision 4 is progressive scan?.

Everywhere I have seen it listed it always says 1080i - interlaced eg on beoworld.co.uk product descriptions :

Is this info out of date or is it a just a typo?

It has to be garbage.  The official spec sheet says it has a 1920x1080 pixel panel, which is capable of showing 1080p.  It can't display 1080i without it first being bodged into 1080p by processing, so there's no reason I can think of that they would have prevented it showing 1080p native.

I believe the specs. published on Beoworld's product pages are for an (older) 42" panel driven by a BS2.

Except for the fact that 126.9cm is 50".  I suppose they could have merged two specs together!

The external dimensions given are 1061 x 651 which would give an outside diagonal dimension of ~49".

So it does.  I get an outside diagonal of 124.5cm, which is smaller than the quoted picture size.  I think it's fairly safe to say this spec sheet isn't very accurate!
