It's great to finally see true HD offerings with the BV4, BV7 and BV9 families sporting true 1920x1080 native resolution w ~2 megapixel counts in the B&O catalog I received today. Been a little disappointed every since researching the various HD broadcast resolutions and then seeing that my BV4 panel was only 1366x768, yet knowing that the BS1 only accepts 480p and 1080i resolutions. Then I ran across and article on the internet that goes indepth on the 1080i on 1366x768 resolution which was an I eye opener.
Unless you have latest greatest BV4, BV7 or BV9 who's panels finally sport 1920x1080 native resolution w 2,073,600 pixel counts,
one could argue that you are not truly watching HD. Seeing that all
previous generation panels including the latest greatest BV8 only sport
panels that are 1366x768 native resolution w 1,049,088 pixels.
Why
you might ask? Bare with me seeing that I am not truly affluent with
all this myself. If anyone else can clarify or has anything to add
please do. From what I have read and understand from the article it simple comes down to the fact that you are always
viewing a scaled imagine, not the true imagine that was intended. The
two resolutions for HD Broadcast are 720p 1280x720 ~ 1 megapixel
(actual just under at 921600 pixels ) and 1080i 1920x1080 ~ 2
megapixels, there is no third 1366x768 HD source resolution. 1366x768
is only a native resolution offered for 16:9 fixed pixel flat plasma and LCD panel displays. Thus if
your panel is 1366x768 resolution display then your imagine has been
mashed about and re-scaled to fit you screen. You basically
never get a pixel for pixel rendering of anything which is sent to your
display. Granted if your panel had a true 1280 mode then 720p HD
broadcast would be rendered pixel for pixel and you could. but very few panels offer that except for higher end-models none of which B&O offered until now. Instead you
are at the mercy of the manufacturers pixel scaler firmware and processing chipset in regards
to the quality of the upscaled or down scaled picture created for you.
Gave me a better understand as to what I am seeing when I look at my BV4 and how the 1080i input is able to be displayed on a 1366x768 native resolution panel. Not to mention being able to understand all the different HD hype when waking into the local electronic store.
