    Beovision MX5500 and picture format

    Hi,

    I bought a MX5500 model 3621 MDT. and I'm using a Beo 4 as remote.

I have problems to get the TV to sync on 16:9 picture format. It seem to sync OK with 4:3, though.

I connected a DVB-C STB into AV2 and there was an asterisk for that input in the menu. With this 4:3 was OK, but 16:9 did not sync. Then I changed setup to Decoder, and I got a 4:3 picture, no matter what the format of the picture really is.

I tried to use the FORMAT in beo 4, mostly nothing happens, and in one point, I got all formats not syncing. With "not syncing" I mean, that picture rolls both horizontally and vertically and no sound.

Is it possible, that this TV does not support 16:9 at all, or is it just question of setup?

    BR,

    Pekka

I'm pretty sure it doesn't, that's the case even with MX6000 (and probably MX7000 as well). In the recent weeks, the forum has had several discussions about 16:9 and so far it seems to me 4200 is the only MX that supports 16:9.

However, about picture "no syncing", there must be some other problem. As far as signals and frequencies are concerned, the difference between analogue 4:3 and 16:9 PAL (or more correctly, 625 line / 50 Hz format) is none. Are you sure you're not trying to display NTSC frequencies (525 lines / 60 Hz) when you say 16:9?

Re: Beovision MX5500 and picture format

I'm quite sure it's not NTCS. I just moved the SCART from Avant to 10 year old Sony and then to MX5500. First 2 just worked. Except, now when thinking about it, in Sony (also 4:3) I had to press format key to get 16:9. Avant just worked.

But reading the previous discussions, remembered that the setting in Topfield represents the format of TV, so need to try that.

I have another MX5500 with another Topfield at countryside, and there the format works "out-of-the-box".

Tonight I'll test the Topfield setting, hope this solves it.

Yes, it should be possible. The setting you need is that the STB does the letterboxing itself when necessary, i.e shows 16:9 transmissions in a 4:3 box with black bars on top and bottom (and 4:3 transmissions as is).

I happen to have a TF100C over here, and on that you need to set "TV aspect ratio" to "4:3" and "Display format" to "Letterbox". It's probably something similar in other models as well.

Re: Beovision MX5500 and picture format

OK, all seems to be in order now. At least the following setup seems to work with MX5500 and Topfield TF600-C:

    MX5500: AV2 setup as V-TAPE

    Topfield: PAL, CVBS, 4:3, Letterbox

Now, how to get to sound and picture settings with beo4, other than volume?

    Hi there,

May i guess you bought the MX from huuto.net? I was about to bid on that too and i'm pretty sure they didn't have too many of that model on sale at the same time. :) In case you'd find some use for VX 5500 VCR (matches the color!) i am willing to let go of mine. :)
