    Beocom 2000

    Hello,

I have two Beocom 2000 units which will not emit a ringing tone. Apart from this, they work just fine. I can dial a number, see the number appear on the LCD, talk and listen to people on the handset, but the unit just does not make any noise when the landline number is phoned. This is the case for both units.

I removed the plastic cover which hides both the phonebook/instruction manual and the pulse/tone settings. I have tried every different setting that there is, but to no avail. I replaced the battery just in case that had anything to do with it, but I presume that the battery is merely for storing numbers.

The following text is underneath the unit:

    REN=1
    INDEXNO: x6967xx

I believe "6967" is the UK version number, although it has US RJ-11 cabling.

Does anyone have any idea why this would be happening? I'd appreciate any input! Smile

A very warm welcome to Beoworld,

I can confirm that "type" 6967 is a UK version.

Based on the information you have provided, I would say that there is nothing wrong with the phones themselves.

The phones will only ring if they receive ring indicator on the phone line which in the UK & Ireland is normally generated in the "Master" socket with a capacitor unless you have a very old phone installation.

Do you have a "Master" phone socket i.e. the first socket connected to the incoming phone line ?

    Regards Keith....

    Hi Keith,

Thanks for your response Smile It turns out that it was the DSL filter causing the problem.

I'll have to do a few tests to see if my internet will hold up without connecting the DSL filters to the phones. Even if it doesn't work for the moment, it's great to know that the phones work! Smile

Good to know it is the ADSL micro filter.

The microfilter ensures there is no interference between your analogue phone call and your broadband. You broadband will work provided you dont use the phone, so until you get a new microfilter just disconnect your phones when you are using broadband.

    Re: Beocom 2000

I am using 2 filters which were supplied to me by my broadband provider:

    http://parts.digikey.com/1/parts/670684-filter-dsl-sngl-line-excelsus-z-230pj.html

Are you suggesting that the phone might function properly with a different filter?

If the phones rings WITHOUT the microfilters, then they should also ring WITH the microfilters.

Filters which are normally provided by ISP's (Internet Service Providers) are fine for 90% of situations, but there are good and bad microfilters. One of the very best on the market is the XF-1e.
