Replacing / upgrade software in Beomaster 6500

    Hi,

This topic was on the old forum.

Unfortunately, the information was lost, so i would like to start this topic in the Workbench Smile

Regarding upgrading the software of Beomaster 6500.

From a fellow member of the forum, i received interesting information about this.

It seems that Beomaster 6500 and 7000 aren't that different,

at least when it comes to software-upgrades (?).

I know that for Beomaster 7000, there is a software-version that

copes with the 2-way-communication-issue when set to Option 0.

But what i would like to do is to equip the Beomaster 6500 with a RDS-kit,

which doesn't seem to be available from B&O anymore.

I was told that the RDS-kit that is used for Beosound Ouverture, 2300, 2500,

can also be installed in Beomaster 6500, as it is basically the same kit, just a different part-number.

    Can anyone confirm this ?

If so, what preparations would i have to do to make this "upgrade" possible ?

Thank you for your input !

    Hi,

the RDS kit  looks quite the same, even all cables are identical, only the length is different.

Two years ago i bought a kit for a BC2500 and tested it in a BM7000, it worked.

    Sorry,
    that's not right.

The RDS module are the same, but the Tuner and CPU of BM6500 and BM7000 much
    different.

Theres no chance to implement only the RDS module in an BM6500.

The BM6500 CPU did not support the Software from the BM7000 and
the Tuner did not have the connection from MPX to the RDS module.

That's right, the CPU board of the BM6500 is a modified BM5500 CPU. The BM7000 uses a complete different design for the CPU board and for the tuner, very similar but not identical. I think, it can be modified with a huge amount of work. But why?

    Thanks Ulf + Die Bogener,

If it is thát complicated, i rather leave that beautiful white BM 6500 alone without modifications Smile

Sorry for the misleading information as I was the one who gave you it.

It was mine experience that  a BM7000, which was bought at a dealer, was equiped with a BM6500 CPU board.

Looking at both boards they looked very similar. Even the connectors are the same. So you can change a 6500 board with a 7000 one.

But I will have a closer look at the service manual of the 7000 I have. I can will compare it with the 6500 one here on the forum.

Maybe it is an idea of buying a second hand BM7000 and replace the cover with the BM6500 to place it with the rest of the system?

Again sorry for making happy met een dooie mus. (don't know how to translate).

Yes, 5500 -6500- 7000 look very similar. Especially the CPU board is almost identical, but only at the first look. They are all different.

It is possible to use a 6500 CPU in a BM5500, just plugin, finished. It will work just like a real 6500... but the Aux-/Speakerlink Port wont work, a cable is missing, it will not send or receive data.

It is also possible to use a 6500 cpu in a BM7000. It will work just like an original 6500. But watch out for the connectors, they have exchanged their position or there will be a very bad short circuit.

It is also possible to install a 7000 CPU in a BM6500. Just take care on the connectors like above mentioned, it will work. If the RDS modul and the tuner are added, then RDS will work.

    Hi Ignace,

What is the 2 way communication issue, and which release of the software has the fix for it?

    Hi, if i remember correctly,

this software-version was used for BM7000 when connected to f.e. a Beovision Avant

and BM7000 was in Option 0, it normally didn't send the 2-way-data to Beolink 7000,

and with this software-update, the Beolink 7000 did receive the 2-way-data.

I'm sure the experts can give you a more clear explanation Smile

    The software-version is 1.3

    Hi Martin,

It probably is best to leave my BM 6500 in its original condition Smile

The idea behind the "conversion" was to get the RDS of Beolink 7000 working,

Having said that, i do have a white BM 5500 that i can experiment with.

I think, it was revision 1.3 for the BM7000.

Re: Replacing / upgrade software in Beomaster 6500

There is one more difference when you replace the CPU board on a BM5500 to a BM6500; two resistors on the IR reciver should be replaced. The 6500 CPU board was sold as an upgrade to 5500. On that board it was some extra components to manage the aux port. The most usefull part with the 6500 board upgrade exceept for the possibility to use beolink 7000 is that the clock works when the power fails.

For those ho have time; it is possible to rebuild the board on a 5500 to a 6500, it takes some parts and two hours of soldering. As I recall the processor, clockchip, eprom and crystal has to be replaced. A new IC on the back side of the board and some wires to enable the larger eprom. A few passive components. And it works!
