BeoSound Overture tape deck - no sound

After some months of not using the tape deck  I wanted to play an audio cassette. I pushed "tape" and "play" and I experienced a very strange sound. It was regular and like a foggy pneumatic hammer. After that I pushed "stop" and then again "play" and there was literally no sound though the mechanism of the tape deck was appearently working.

What could that be? Has annyone had this problem?

Suspect the rubber drive bands have broken/perished. After a period of no use they become stuck to the pulleys/wheels and break when you try to use the tape deck again. This is certainly true in Beocenter 9000/9300/9500 types and I don't suppose it is any different in an Ouverture.

You may be lucky and they could just be a little stuck, , check everythings turning by pressing tape without a tape inserted , also try gently turning all the wheels with your fingers to free up the mech

    its worth a go

Re: BeoSound Overture tape deck - no sound

Thank you very much for your kind replies. I have checked superficially the mechanism. Everything is rolling as it should - I am not sure if everything is OK inside the BS Overture. Though I remember I had in the past the same problems and by pushing some buttons in the front it started to work.

Now it is not the case - no sound at all. It is just like having the tape deck playing without a cassette. I am quite dissapointed as I wanted to listen to my very old recordings...

Is there sth more I can do to avoid visiting my dealer?..

    Hope to hear,

It never hurts to try cleaning the tape heads.  Use a commercial head cleaning audio cassette from Discwasher, Maxell, etc., or apply a drop or two of isopropyl alcohol to a Q-Tip (cotton bud) and use that.
