Is any of my old kit worth anything or just the skip :-(

    Hi There,

I have been looking through the forum and decided this would be the best place to ask such a question...

I have an old Beo Centre 4000 which can be found at this link

    www.beoworld.org/prod_details.asp?pid=955

     Beovox S45-2 (pair of speakers)

     Beogram 2200 (record turntable)

I live in the uk and would like to know if this is still actually worth anything to anyone or should I just let go?

     Thanks

In absolute terms, not a huge amount but you do have one of the best sounding systems made by B&O.

The speakers are still well worth having and the record player sounds as good as almost any made by B&O. The Beocenter has a superb amplifier and is a forgotten master. The cassette part was a simplified Beocord 5000 and as such was one of the few cassette players actually made by B&O. The cassette does give problems but can be serviced. Condition is everything - if in good condition this would be a superb system.

    Welcome to beoworld !

    Here's my opinion;
Quite a rare Beocenter, actually. Superb amplifier and tuner, cassette part not the worst but a bit hard to service.
Beovox S45-2 the best of the lot. Quality speakers, even by todays standards.
Beogram 2200, not the worst deck around.

A very fine 70's system indeed and not a combination we see a lot.
If you decide to sell it, the best place would be Ebay, I think. And list the items seperately with good photos and descriptions.

Price is hard - condition is everything.

Welcome to Beoworld! Many of us here have a keen interest in the older B&O kit.

The system you have is definitely too good  the skip! You have a good system that deserves to be preserved and listened to, not worth an awful lot of money but one that compares well to a lot of newer kit. I am pretty sure you can attach a CD player too. Is it you system or have you inherited it?

    Rough estimates for eBay proces:

The Beovox S45-2's are good speakers. If you try them head-to head with any more modern speakers you have you may be pleasantly surprised! If they are in good condition they should go for about £20-30 on eBay. It will help if you have the original stands. If you end up keeping them it is worth replacing the electrolytic capacitors in the crossovers as that can work wonders for the sound.

If the Beocenter is in good working order you will proably get around the same, possibly a little less as the model is not all that wekll known.

The turntable value will depend of whether or not the stylus/cartridge is still in full working order. If it is you will probably get another £30, if not maybe £10-20. However, if you list the cartridge and turntable separately you can expect £30-70 for the cartridge (depending on model) and £10-20 for the turntable. If you do list the cartridge separately security mark it in some way before you post it to the succesful bidder, some scammers will send their broken cartridge back and claim that it is the cartridge you posted to them!
