    Beosound 2500 won't store settings.

Hmmm......  my (new to me) beosound 2500 will not store settings.

Received from the auction site, price was right, tape was not working as well as no remote.

OK, so I replaced the belt and the tape works.  On the remote, in stand-by press sound 1 store.

Everything works.  I can program and set stations.  It goes through all the motions, etc.  As long as the power is on.

If I switch to stand-by, everything is lost.  I have to re-program remote code, etc.  A look at the battery shows 3.2volts.

I'd think the static ram IC is bad, except how does it remember all the settings when I don't turn it off?

Oh, and there's an empty socket next to the EPROM.  Is this normal?

    Any thoughts?

OK, it does look like someone pulled out IC9 from the CPU.  The set works like a charm until I turn it off.

Anyway, I ordered the chip.  Will see when it gets here.  Why on earth would someone pull that out???

Soooo..... the saga continues...  IC's sorted, still no work.  A MUCH closer look found 2 corroded traces on the CPU board.  Thank god I have a stereo microscope....

Fixed the traces and the set stores correctly.

    Problems sorted.  A hard-won battle for a $300 score.

That's the beauty of ebay.  Expect the absolute worst and you won't be disappointed.

For me it's just another excercise in honing my tech skills.

    Cheers!
