damatt: The light sensor on the LX4500/LX5500 only adjusts the contrast, but the sensor on the LX5000/6000 also adjusts the colour and brightness during the day. They also have the newer Black Line/Black matrix screens (better black levels).
Aha, is that why the LX5000/6000 tube looks darker (when it's not switched on) than the tube of the LX4500/5500? A darker tube? I always suspected that the newer models had a darker contrast glass, but now I get that it is the actual tube that is darker :)
Is the 25" models better than the 28" counterparts when it comes to quality of the tube? I've noticed that some of the 5500s I've seen the last five years have some PQ problems such as blurry picture, but every 25" model I've seen these last years still have a really sharp picture (although the contrast isn't always was it once was)
I'm still looking fpr a nice LX5000 (or 6000) to replace my 4500 :-) When at work, I'm surrounded by fantastic plasmas showing HD content, but I still don't want a bigger screen than 25-28" at home - and for non-HD content I prefer the CRT PQ - so I have no plans to get a B&O lcd or plasma.
I agree about CRT PQ for non-HD. I have three Beovisions which are variations on a theme, but bear in mind after 15 years differences in PQ may depend as much on how well an individual TV is lasting as it does on the model.
LX2502 - Stunning picture and sound. Speakers have some foam rot.
LX2800 - Stunning sound, picture a little blurred conpared to the other two.
LS5500 - Stunning picture, better than any LCD or Plasma I have seen for 4:3 SD output. Sounds excellent by standards of 'normal' TV's from other manufacturers but disappointing compared to the other two Beovisions (Single full range speaker not tweeter/woofer). Has 15 WPC amplifier built in which is inadequate for Home Cinema but sounds stunning powering non-B&O passive speakers, saving up for a pair of C/CX speakers!
Total cost for all three TV's with 3xBeolink 1000's = £160.
