    Beosound 9000 doesn't work...

The arm of my Beosound 9000 will move to a CD, and then the CD player will sound like it's trying to play the CD, but the CD doesn't rotate.  After several seconds, the LCD shows "PAUSE".

Has anyone perhaps dealt with this before?  I called the B&O shop- they said "bring it in"- that means dismounting it, transporting it, and then waiting... plus, $ 800 minimum, as the chap told me...  Sounds odd...

    I'd appreciate any advise!

    Thank you!

Not sure they are the right symptoms, but have you cleaned all the sensors?

Thank you, Koning- please excuse my ignorance, but where can I find out how to clean the lasers?

    Cheers.

The syptoms indicate that the CD mech is not finding focus, usually caused by dirty laser focus lens.

Cleaning the lens involves lifting the top of the clamper to get at the lens. Instructions for doing this are in the service manual available on this site to silver and gold members.

You could try one of the lens cleaning cd's although I understand that they are not recommended by B&O.

You could always push the boat out and have a look at the FAQ section on the main site..  We try and cover as much as we can there, but always need help from members who have solved issues and could add more.

Thank you all so much for the kind advise!  I managed to follow it, and my BeoSound is as good as new!  Plus, I am sure I saved hundreds of dollars (enough at least to fill up my petrol tank this week!).

    Cheers!

That is excellent news Accumbens and one of the many reasons why we exist as a site.

On another note, your post has highlighted what appears to be a disturbing trend for charging extortionate prices for repair before even looking at equipment. Where on earth did they pluck that $800 figure from?

    Chris.

The use of metaphors should be avoided like the plague. They're like a red rag to a bull to me.

the answer is very simple: they don'tt have any interest in cleaning the lens: the price they charge for replacing the mesh is 800$( mine was 720$)....

    all sold!

    Mmmm.....

I would like to think that most dealers would, on receiving a phone call such as yours, actually talk you through the most likely fixes before mentioning any charges. Unsure

Bsnd 9000 service calls are relatively rare, and I the majority are either in need of cleaning (a by-product of the relatively open design for the lens, and the dusty sensor issue) or in need of the mech aligment changing, following a change from wall to table or stand mounting.

My guestimate would be for every 10 calls we get, at least seven never come in for repair, because of the fixes above, which tend to work.

    Glad you got sorted.
