    Bs3 & Penta display

Changed my BS4500 set-up to go thru a BeoSystem 3 via a datalink converter , have 6 Penta's and have now lost the displays as the BS3 doesn't support it and doesn't let the data thru  . As the Powerlink sockets on the BS4500 master are not now used I am wondering if I could take a feed from pin 6 ( data ) and feed the Penta's to get the displays back when I use the audio ? Anyone know if this will work and are there any other pins needed ?

If I remember correctly, its a pair rather than a single line ... have you checked the schematics on the site?

    Re: Bs3 & Penta display

I've got the Beolink handbook , it shows the Powerlink wiring layout and pin 6 is datalink and pin 7 is it's shield/ground .  I've  connected these but no display and am a bit reluctant to try other combinations without knowing what I doing . The pin layout is as below .
    Pin 1 = grey = power up/down
    Pin 2 = shield = ground
    Pin 3 = brown =signal  left channel
    Pin 4 = yellow = loudspeaker relay
Pin 5 = green = signal right channel
    Pin 6 = white = datalink
    Pin 7 = shield = ground
    Pin 8 = pink = overload
I connected pin 6 & 7 on the Beomaster4500 to the same pins on one of the Penta's and  commanded CD thru the Bs3 , speaker came on but no display . The data information must be there but the Bs3 doesn't pass it thru , my thinking is to bypass the BS3 with this data .

    Hi Richard,

Would seem to make sense ... is it worth setting up the system with the signal plus ground only to the penta and leaving the bs3 out to check this first?

    Hi Neil .

The drawing in the Beolink handbook shows pin7 shield/ground around the white/data wire 6 , the other ground/shield pin2 goes around the left and right signals . Looks to me that pin 6 and 7 are the one's . On the thin Powerlink cable pins 1 , 6 , 7 and 8 are not connected and am wondering if pin 1 is needed to trigger the display ?

Is your BS3 SW lower then 3.1?

    Re: Bs3 & Penta display

Installed last Friday and is software 4.17a . I've worked out a fix , I plugged in a full spec power link cable direct to one of the Penta's from the master and called for Cd thru the Bs3 ( all speakers connected to that ) and the displays work . All displays came on so looks like the power link data pins on the Bs3 are connected as it's the only way the other 5 Penta's can get the information . They are coming back today to alter a couple of things so I'm going to get them to make up a Power Link cable without the right and left channel , using  full spec cable the speaker is getting sound information from two directions .  The volume display is wrong as it shows what the Bs4500 is set at and not the Bs3 but can live with that .

The BS3 does support display data, have you set you pentas to video mode? instead of Audio...

    Re: Bs3 & Penta display

Tried Video and Audio switch and altered the volume and other controls to see if that would kick them into life but no display . Tried one of the Penta's on my Bv7-40 and got audio display but no video , but I have a Bv6 linked to this 7 and if the 7 is in audio and then turn on the 6 the display went off . Looks to me as though the Bs3 will sometimes let data thru from equipment attached that outputs this information but cannot output data itself , at least my one doesn't . I have got the displays working with this special cable and all information is there ( Radio , track , aux ect ) except the correct volume .

Your speaker has to be in Video and the BS3 has to be turn off for it to have an effect.

    Re: Bs3 & Penta display

Hi Stig , thanks for your comments but can't turn off the Bs3 just for audio as all the speakers go from it for the 5.1 cinema and the Bs4500 is connected via a BeoLink converter . Did think about having a second Power  Link circuit from the Bs4500 to the Penta's as there are two Power Links sockets in each Penta but would probably cost £300 + for the cables and might cause a back feed so  think I have the best result I can get .

sorry what i meant was power it off and then on again, to get the display data in sync.
