    BeoWorld question

Out of curiosity really, why are we BeoWorld.org and not BeoWorld.com?

I believe Beoworld .com was owned by someone else and we were .co.uk but changed as we felt we were a worldwide site rather than just a UK one.

Interesting to see I finish up here when I try BeoWorld.com:

    Re: BeoWorld question

beoworld.com is for sale if anyone wants to pay $26,000 for it !!  I have been approached several times by a 'domain name broker' about it.

I have tried repeatedly to buy it, but the owner won't budge on price and is quite happy using it for google adword revenue.

We changed from beoworld.co.uk to beoworld.org for a number of reasons, and as Peter correctly pointed out - dot org had a more 'international' feel that reflected the sites membership.

"I think we're just fine thanks," is likely to be your response to his $26,000 offer I bet, Lee! Gee you'd think he owns the Internet.

    Re: BeoWorld question

Well, just be alert in August... the less interest you show, the more of a chance you have of snatching it when it (eventually) slips free. I just got one domain for myself (or the company, actually) after having it sit for several years in the hands of some random guy from St. Petersburg, and after that some time at a domain broker. And got it at the regular godaddy.com rate of $9 or something per year.

In any case, I'm pretty much used to trying several TLDs in succession in any case every time I'm away from my bookmarks. .org, .com, .net, whatever - doesn't matter to me, only .biz seems to be the nesting place for all the dubious businesses...

I prefer .org to .com for a forum like this as it is not, in any meaningful sense 'for profit'. In the unlikely event of a big surplus Lee would simply spend it on upgrades or prizes.

.org has more of a community feel.

    Re: BeoWorld question

I think that .org has a much more international connotation than .com or .co.uk. IIRC, that was Lee's argument for the change at that time.
