My 5500 CD player has started to give me trouble.................

In short, it has difficulty reading CD's - I've obviously tried different CD's so it appears to be the deck.

Is this a common problem, is there a "fix" available?

Possibly dirty laser lens, so clean that first with cotton bud damped in isopropanol.

If no change then suspect electrolytic capacitors on servo board.
