    Beomaster 3300 and Penta passive speakers

    Hello;

    Does anyone know whether I can add a power amp to my 1989 3300 system? I just found a great pair of Pentas but need some extra power to drive them. Does the MCL 2P amplifier connect?  Your help's appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi Goodhome, and welcome to the forum.

    The amplifier designed for this was of course the Beolab 150. The MCL2P is not really much better than the amplifier in the 3300 - both are about 30W. I would look for something more powerful than the MCL2P. Not sure how you will drive a power amplifier as I don't think the 3300 has a pre-amp out. The Beolab 150 takes an amplified input.

    Peter and JandyT

    Thank you both for your prompt replies. The Pentas are passive hence the need for some extra horepower. Good point that without a pre-amp out, connection would be a challenge. That said, my concern is driving the Beomaster too hard (60 -70 range) to get response from the 18 speakers within. Is that a concern? Any alternatives come to mind?

    Thanks again

    Jim
