Possible Beogram Counterweight issues - how to "reset"?

    Hi Guys!

A few months ago I posted an issue I was having with my Beogram RX turntable.  Dillen suggested it was oxidization and that a spring cleaning would probably do (Thank you Dillen!).  Sure enough I took it to the B&O store here in Toronto and they cleaned the innards, replaced the RCA leads and also did some new soldering.  After an initial hiccup of the left channel not working after the first repair and having them clear that issue up, I once again have a beautifully working B&O RX!!

I do have one concern though.  When I was fiddling with the player initially, thinking my original issue may have been a counterweight problem, I screwed around with it and now I know it's not properly set.

How can I "reset" my counterweight so that I know I'm using the proper tracking force with my new MMC4 cartridge.  I know the recommended tracking force is 1.2g's, but I'm sure I've threw it off when I was fiddling with it. :(  I don't want to damage my records or the expensive cartridge.  Can anyone help me?  Again??

    Thank you much!

    Mike

Re: Possible Beogram Counterweight issues - how to "reset"?

Here's how to do it Mike.

    1. Put an old record (or one you hate!) on the platter and start playing.

    2. When the stylus sets down UNPLUG the beogram from the mains, this will stop the tonearm in the play position. (Pressing stop will simply return the arm to the rest position which is not what you want here).

    3. Turn the counterweight until the tonearm is in a "floating" position :- IE zero force.

4 Very carefully hold the black main body of the counterweight and turn the silver graduated ring (it turns as it is simply held by a magnet to the main part of the weight) until "0" is at the top position. I do mean VERY carefully, the last thing you want to do is break the tonearm at the pivot or the pivot itself - they are both very fragile.

    5 Now turn the whole of the weight inwards to the correct tracking force. 1.5g for MMC5 - 1.2g for MMC3 & 4 - 1.0g for MMC1 & 2.

    6. Job done! Plug & play.

    Chris.

    Excellent, thank you!

Now I do this with the cartridge still connected, correct?

Thank you very much!   I've done as instructed and found out that the B&O service team must have noticed this and fixed it for me as well!
I've been enjoying my old vinyl all day.  Since the servicing it sounds so much more lively and dynamic, while still sounding very warm with excellent bass response.  I wasn't expecting this much of a difference in  sonic perfomance!

I hope you don't mind the attachments.

     Thank you again,

    mike!

     Works like a charm!
