OK, never mind. After looking at ther service manual, I realized there were those tiny locking clips which I gently removed. You were right, the posts were more like glue than lubricated. Cleaned, re-lubed and re-assembled. Still no joy. Then I got a flash and put the old belt back on. Works like a dream. Seems the only belt my local guy was PRB FRY17

Blackrix, Thanks for the info. How does one remove the spindles. I only have the one 5500 to mess with and do not want to break it in the process. Thanks!

As part of my latest project, I am on to the Beocord 5500 (Beomaster and CD working fine now). SUCCESS! My parts all arrived today. Put them in, works like a charm. Did the mod to the philips (2103, I believe) cap (33 to 47) and plays CD-R's with no problem. While in there, cleaned the rails, lubed them and replaced the drive belt. Works like new. Did have a bit of rubbing noise from the cd holdown. Placed a thin brass washer between the

Phoyer, thanks for the link! Took me a couple hours to locate all the OEM and upgrade parts but I did. Got the WIMA parts from Mouser electronics and all the rest from Newark Electronics/Element 14. Should be here this week. FYI, I am in the USA. Just as a point of interest, it appears that the Philips cap that everyone seems to indicate needs to be

Hi Richard - Same problem as above, although if I keep hitting PLAY, it does eventually play! Now that I have opened cabinet, which capacitors are you referring to? The ones on the lower board (I believe there are two), or the upper board which has many? Thanks!
