Stop a minut, are we talking about the tone arm carriage , or the tone arm where it is attached to the carriage, the carriage should not have any play or feel lose. The tone arm must move freely when in play position, the needle follows the record groove and when moving inward, it will open for light to the photo optic, this will activate the motor

Hi Owen, I was following this thread with great interest, sorry it didn't work out, put it in the cup board, and in a couple of month you will try again just to know, what went wrong.

I love Queens and Freddy Mercury, I have the DVD of the last concert at Wembley, play it again and again. As for your Bass and distortion problems, it may be your dampening, I have one of my S45s in a corner and I have to move it away from corner some 60/70 Cm to get the same sound as the other speaker, that one standing some 30 Cm from a straight wall

I bought a SMMC4 from Soundsmith, and compared to my old MMC4, that came with my BG 5000, it is a lot better, tested both on BG 2404 as well and same result, if your vinyl records are in new condition you may hear a difference from SMMC4 to SMMC2, but if not, I dont think so. I have had 3 cartridged here, 1 MMC2, 2 MMC4, only the before mensioned MMC4
