My avatar is a pair of Beolab 5000 powered speakers from 1989/1991. Sometimes available on eBay but very rarely in mint condition.

You can only preset 3 positions. Position 0 is the STBY position and position 1 is the default watching position.

I had a pair of RL140's from new and they were identical. I can't recall the serial numbers but would not be surprised if they went through manufacturing on a batch basis and they then took any two to make a pair. They were certainly boxed separately. I always rated them very highly, even defending them against the Penta sheep. Especially so

Your dealer can supply a 8 pin DIN joiner and another length of powerlink cable. No discernable change in sound quality, in my opinion. Alternatively try Steve at Sounds Heavenly who advertise at the bottom of this page and who may have other ideas.

Can you get a feel for whether the "notchiness" eminates from under the main bed or somewhere in the wire cable area? First check that the CD mech is level with the main bed. It is possible for the mech to be bent down and require adjustment. Should be parallel to the bed when viewed from the end of the unit. If you remove the back covers

As an aid to diagnosis, I would release the sledge (details in service manual) and move the sledge manually to try and get a feel for where the problem occurs.
