Actually the big 1 watt resistor and zener supplying the base of the transistor kicks out a fair bit of heat - definately not the motor as this is setup exactly as per the manual (I followed just about every proceedure to get things just right :) ). I don't think there is an easy answer, except be prepared to pay the asking price for one that does eventually come along. Either that or pay for a knackered one and get a kit off Martin. Personally if I was in your position, I would consider one of the later decks if it was that tough to find the one you want - I am sure they are not that much

Moxxy, ever since the Avants and some later B&O products I have often started with the same opinion (The instant wow factor of the 80's / 90's seemed to be missing from a number of later products), but after initial dissapointment have grown to appreciate what has generally been good design.
