In my view, no. The sound for the thinness of the set is admirable but is not a patch on the bigger sets. The 9300 and Ouverture are much the same animal - with the 9300 having a passive amplifier built in. The CD on the 9500 would be my choice too using the TDA 1541 DAC. They will be fine in stereo - it is the rear channels that suffer. The CD4 record essentially encodes the rear channels at a much higher frequency and this is then decoded later.
