Ok so now swine flu is out the way (I am convinced it was - never been in bed for 8 days with flu before!!!!) I was able to complete my 3000 finally. I fashioned the pivot from the tip (last 3mm!!!) of a razor blade, the cutting edge was rounded but remained defined... Above attempt failed after a few hours. I think the old glue I used / lack of surface

Yes you got some good deals Jaques. However my 4000 was £15 :) Needed a fair bit of work and the wood trim is not original (and not even decent). I actually won it for £30 but had the audacity to complain when I saw it wasn't quite as nice as the auction led me to believe!!!

I have noticed a considerable dip in prices for most 400x based players atm. Not recession related but must be that plus christmas coming up. A 6000 good condition with original cartridge went for £70 recently. The only thing that was mentioned in the listing was that there were no speakers to test for sound. Sorry Micheal having thought about things I wasn't thinking about your lid being different than the other types so I do not think your lid will have such adjustment - might be worth downloading manual and having a flick through... Sorry about that :(

It does sound as if there isn't quite enough friction in the hinge to keep the lid flat - adjustment of which is achieved by altering the two upper screws at the rear of the cover. I would get a good fitting screwdriver and tighten the left screw by quarter turn each time, sit lid down and see if there is any noticable difference. Nothing to lose
-
Ah ok so the last section had worked loose... The reason I mentioned the adjustments is that your dustcover doesn't look like it has the typical sag from your photos...?
-
Are you sure it is warped it might just need adjusting - two small screws at the rear of the lid. Carefully tighten up corrisponding screw and the lid should clamp down. I am glad a main dealer sorted it for you. Did they bend the tonearm back and can you tell it was bent?

I wonder if the winning bidder has to scrape it off too
-
Sorry I didn't help in good time - I have been struck with a second much stronger bout of flu and really suffering ATM!!! I will still look if you want just in case the new pulley doesn't work...

Yes they do fetch silly money in the UK too! I think they are the least dated of the sloped range, and I will guess if they are mint they become very desirable!
