UPDATE... After some offsite dealing, John and I have done some swapping around. The BG4000 has traveled across the states safe and sound. My goal is to bring it back to life. As this thread is about the same TT in question, I will post the progress here for future reference to anyone having similar issues.

I can't advise on bypassing the protection circuit (which sounds like what you may have done) but if the sound has changed, there must be an issue w/ the switches even if they looked OK. I would get them back in line and functional. 2.) I would then look at the caps. 3.) Remember, they are prone to rot even if they
