  • Re: Beovision (1994) NTSC/PAL switchable?

Hi, My 1990 Mx 5500 TV was both PAL and NTSC. I now have a 1999 AVANT so I will just check that for you (with a US DVD player I got under my bed) and let you know. It might help guess if your TV (1994) is likely to be NTSC too. Reason I think it will be is that B&O only started to export TVs to USA after 1989, the MX 5000 being the first, I read

  • Re: My BL 9 stop working!

Beolab 5 faults too, see the thread I just finished off, finally. New parts eh, should have had new speakers. I know why they named them Beolab 5, because I had to have 5 of them before I got 2 that worked. I waited 4 years before buying my speakers so that B&O could iron out the glitches Most good quality electronic stuff, if it's going to

  • Re: BL5 Noise problems

Just reporting back about the Beolab 5s. Thanks to all for the work on this thread with cables and digital suggestions. I finally got my problems solved, which were the noise on both my Beolab 5s. One in the upper bass module and the other in the treble module. A new pair was delivered. One of the new pair had the same fault (upper bass). Finally got

Will update on the BL5 Noise Problems again soon BUT! YES, it was the speakers. Tried 3 out of 4, only one good one. Another on its way to me soon. Looks to be ICE

  • Re: BL5 Noise problems

OK folks, think we kicked the ass out of this thread now. Yes I have BL1000. You can key in pin code with it but the 'SOUND 1 STORE' method does not change BL5 options (this is multi room beolink options for those that don't know). For BL5 mode changes then I do need Beo4. But at £170 then I don't need to change the BL5 options

  • Re: BL5 Noise problems

OK, couple of things. Firstly, thanks for the help again with suggestions. I need to as you say try and get a listen to them without PL connected but I think I've already excluded the TV as a source of noise by my 'half-splitting' approaches at the start of this thread where I've set both speakers switches to the 'right' channel

  • Re: BL5 Noise problems

Thanks for all the posts and threads, some of which relate to my noise issues. The most interesting point made is still this business of using PL mark 3 or fully mounted cables that were "designed specifically to overcome noise problems..." so it sounds like I'm joining a club of BL owners that have had issues. There's no triangles

  • Re: BL5 Noise problems

No triangles on the cables, they're 3mm and the BL5s do switch on and off. TV is MX5500, yes it's old but I've used this TV with a non B&O power amp (Rotel RB980BX), via the powerlink outputs (using 5 pin DIN plugs to RCA lead) driving my Beovox Pentas, no problem, no noise etc. I should know tomorrow if these PL cables I was given are

  • Re: BL5 Noise problems

OK will do. They do look thin, so that's why I asked the guys. No they said, these are the fully mounted ones, the thinner ones are REALLY thin they said. I can't imagine cables being any thinner frankly than the ones I've been given. I will take one of the cables to the local dealer here for a second opinion tomorrow. Thanks

  • Re: BL5 Noise problems

I think it the cables too. Book says have to use 'fully mounted' Powerlink "not the really thin type" now that to me implies 'chunky' cables, like the datalink cables (7 pin) that connect up all my other bits. Something about these new generation Powerlink cables that worries me, they look too thin to be of any use, for shielding
