    I have a MMC3 in exactly this condition which came from a later version tangential tracking deck. These decks track by using the tonearm movements via the stylus to trigger a circuit which tells the servo motor to step the tonearm on.     The grounding for B&O turntables is done via the metal outer shield of the din plug. The original B&O cable will have been a Din to Din cable fully shielded to ground. I suspect the Din to RCA cable which you are calling the original is actually an after market item & isn't grounded this way. I would try as you suggest & run a direct

    Hi & welcome to Beoworld. Connecting a CD player is easy, use the tape 2 input. Any CD player will work fine but if you want a B&O one then the CDX is the one to choose. Chris.

    Not possible I'm afraid. The lids are anodised aluminium & any attempt to remove the scratches will make the appearance 100 times worse & make you wish you had never started. The only solution is to order a new one from B&O or learn to live with it. Chris.

    The only reason I can think of is that people must think that the higher the number, the more highly specified the cartridge is. A fair assunption to make if you don't know. Chris.
