Hi all, This is my long awaited project. After months of researching what to do, selecting the best parts (IMHO), and finally apportioning the time required to do the job, it's done. WOW! I remember when I was at university in 1977, I walked into the local B&O dealers in Johannesburg (Recordia - for those who may remember), and stood open-eared

Hi Andy, A great thread - well done! I love to see other simple people like me, taking the initiative and making the effort to do the job well (and succeeding, to boot), instead of farming out work to local technicians who can't be bothered to care about professionalism any more! I'm starting on my 4 S45's in a few days to replace the Crossover

I'm not familiar with a B108, but a basic fact of life (electronically speaking), that of all electronic components, Electrolytic Capacitors have the shortest lifespan of all. As an Electrolytic capacitor ages, the electrolyte dries out, or alters its consistency. Thus, it loses its ability to "capacitate", and becomes a resistor, or in

Yes, I like Rod Eliott's website - lots of good, intelligent words there. And yes, I agree that the best capacitor is the one that isn't there! But if there needs to be, the right choice makes a big difference. What is the BM7000 workshop?

This is certainly the place for Martin to step in and clarify, but in my experience, I have always used Audio Grade capacitors in the Output Amplifier stages, and Low-ESR, High-Ripple-Stability 105* capacitors in the rest of the circuit. Examples of Audio-Grade caps: Nichicon Muse, BlackGate, Elna Silmic, Auricaps, Solen & Axon, Dynamicap Check

Great Idea Kevin! Here are a couple of my regular suppliers: Suppliers in the USA (export worldwide - very reasonable shipping costs) www.mouser.com www.digikey.com The above 2 are massive suppliers, which means their stock has a high turnover and is always fresh from the factory - Nichicon, Panasonic, Wima, Xicon. www.percyaudio.com Percy has all the

Thanks - all of you! Just for confirmation, 2 of the speakers were bought new, and have never been altered, and the other 2 (even though I bought them second hand) have the same capacitors, so the polarized capacitors are original ROE factory B&O installed. Be that as it may, the plan very clearly specifies Bipolar, so therefore, that's what

Would you still recommend Auricap BiPolars for replacements, or would it be better to remain with Sprague Atom Polarized?
-
Hi Die Bogener, Firstly, thanks for being sceptical - it keeps us honest! Here is a picture - you can see very clearly that it IS a POLARIZED cap 16uF/40V . The negative end has a clear ring, and the positive end has a clear + sign. All 4 of my S45's have exactly the same capacitors. I haven't opened any other types of Beovox speakers - maybe

I've just pulled apart my 4 S45's - I've been wanting to replace the Crossover caps for a while - Each Xover has 2x 16uF 100V Polarized Aluminium Electrolytic caps. 1. Being polarized (unusual - as Martin correctly stated that they have to deal with AC signals), I presume that it's OK to replace with Polarized - the Vishay Sprague Atom
