Thx Graham! Fortunately this turned out to be a non-event so far. I started by replugging the base and everything returned to normal. No answer as to what caused it nor have I heard of it happening before! Hope it may help someone that stumbles across it in the future -reboot!

UPDATE... sourced a BeoPort, so I will be moving to the next phase soon! I wish to again express my gratitude for all the help... certainly the physical config has not a great deal to do w/ the software -but I certainly appreciate it! Perhaps it will help someone in the future.

Hi all, Apart from the occasional "OUT OF RANGE" handset threads we have here -last night I had a strange thing happen. I have a BeoCom 6000 Mk.1 (DOT) network maxed out w/ (6) handsets. Last night, all handsets started blinking RED and showing the "OUT OF RANGE" error. Clearly an issue w/ the pyramidal base... but I found nothing
