Never tested myself, I can imagine that, on short distances, a Cat 5 Type S/UTP (Screened / Unshielded Twisted Pair) or even an U/UTP (Unshielded / Unshielded Twisted Pair) might be sufficient to replace ML-cables (not PL-Cables). But, if it's a very small "audio only" system and there are no plans to add/change components for a long time

Dust under the glass has been an issue on early BS5's - there is a service solution to solve the problem (normally covered by warranty) Scratches are, as you assume, in most cases result of cleaning (normally not covered by warranty) But you should safe at least costs of labour when exchaging the glass together with the warranty covered "Dust
