Correct, I missed the mark a little! I wouldn't want to go for Pentas for that very reason. The amp in the 9000 just isn't enough to drive them to good volumes. I would look for speakers like the S45-2, which are very good speakers. How large is the room?

No not really. The amps in the BeoCenter 9/8xxx series weren't the beefiest B&O have made (although they are still good amplifiers). Only something like a BeoMaster 8000 or BeoLab 150/200 can really drive them to good volumes. Ideally, BeoLab Pentas would be used (BeoVox Pentas with a BeoLab 200 at the base).

Nonsense. If the BeoVision works fine for gordongofer at the moment, then there's absolutely no reason to update the software. The TV will need to be connected by HDMI and Scart. The Scart will supply the image to be piped round the house. Set the Sky box to 1080 - the BBC have now started broadcasting in 1080p which is a big step up from the 1080i

Hey! Big fan of the BeoSound 4 here! I'd actually agree with you RE the BeoSound 5 - B&O's best yet, by quite some leap I would say...

The BeoMaster 4000 was my introduction to B&O (admittedly it wasn't working at the time). Still a fantastic sounding amplifier. Mine came with the tuner-preset cover - quite a rarity I believe.

erg4000: I have a Beosystem 3 / BV4 50" setup at home. Besides the versatile Beosystem 3, I don't see why my next display should be from B&O. I understand that B&O has no plasma or LCD development and that companies like Sony don't want to sell their newest LCD or OLED displays to B&O. Sony don't make their own LCD displays

A 15m HDMI cable will do. HDMI signals don't degrade in quality - you just get to a certain length (50m I believe) and the image disappears completely. Don't get a super-duper high quality HDMI cable, just one which is well made and will last.

It's a setting in the special service menu, not the main menu you see when you press MENU on your remote control. I would advise you don't poke around inside the menu - you can do a lot of expensive damage to the television just by changing the wrong setting (hence why it's called the service menu - it's meant to be handled by service engineers).

I'm sure they're keeping their eye on it as a technology, but at the moment it's far too immature. Most larger displays have a lifetime of around a year at the moment...

The BeoLab 1s are stunning speakers, particularly in the midrange, which is phenomenally superior to what could be considered the BeoLab 1's competitors at the time. I was never keen on them until I heard them set up correctly. Add in a subwoofer such as a BeoLab 2 and you'll blow your socks off.
