If people were bitching about something missing, or something more was needed, yes, you might have had a point. Apparently Trip-E succeeded in his little rhetorical maneuvre.
Fair Enough, but there was a remark back a ways by Ojibway that the designers didn't finish the job, and we ran off with it.

I do understand the question of proportion; but 20 years ago, the size of a cassette and CD were fixed by the industry, designing around them was simplified compared to the minimum requirement here. How does one deal with 2nd Gen Nanos, iPhones and iPads all at once? Perhaps the best answer is not to.

Nice pull Trip! I was in the shop today and heard a remark made by a shopper that the BS-8 reminded him of the original BeoSystem 2500. Having stumbled onto this thread, I am forced to agree with that anonymous commenter, and Trip. Consider that the singular shock of the 2500's design was to present

If you had everything connected as described, then you ought to be fine. When the BeoLab 5's 'see' an audio source 'displayed' on the PL cable, they automatically check the S/P-DIF input first, and if a signal is present, they lock onto it and stay. This is one major reason that you must use fully-mounted PL cables in these set-ups

True Pavur, but that affects how the BeoSystem 3 'upmixes' 2-channel sources for surround.

A couple of things occur to me regarding the beolab 5's. First confirm that the input switches are set to 'L' and 'r' and NOT 'line'. This will certainly cause that problem. Next I would try connecting them directly to the BS-9000 to see if the problem persists. Finally I am concerned that you might not be using fully wired

You're quite welcome. But you ought to be in V. Opt 2/A. Opt 0.
-
You MUST connect the BeoCenter 2 to the BeoSystem 3 as BOTH an audio master AND as a DVD player. MasterLink? Yes. All AV connections (including the control/IR port) to an AV input on the BS-3? Yes! Your option settings are correct, and everything else ought to be fine.
-
Yes, you do. Daisy-chain from the socket box through the 2 BL-5's and then on to the BS-3 AV input.
