Normally the pink line comes up if you press play on the VCR without a video on it (well my Mk 1 Avant does)

My 28" Mk 1 avant (nearly 10 years old) is looking like it will need a chassis and tube change to get it working again... Given that prognosis (yet to be formally estimated) am I looking at a repair not worth doing ? Anyone had similar repair experience on a 1st generation Avant ?
