The 7.1 is a totally different speaker. It's a stereo speaker, made to be a center speaker for some but not really meant for that. It makes a great soundbar though, and a decent center. The 7.4 makes a great center, and a crappy speaker for anything else! Take your pick!

I would get the 7.4. If you can get it for similar money and you like the looks. You will prob find some that say to pair the non-ALT speakers with like (e.g., BL4000) but I have BL8000s as front speakers and BL3 for center and it works great.

The 608 doesn't have multi-channel pre-outs so you would never be able to run anything but passive speakers if you wanted to. I would get the 708 for more flexibility

The Onkyo will trounce those little beolink passives! The Onkyo was made for pushing passive speakers....your BS1 wasn't even though you are using passive amps
