  • Re: Distortion Problem, Beogram 1800

I'll check the loading and capacitance on the pre-amp. Not sure if the tracking weight is ok. After having the MM5 rebuilt by Alex, it's now something of a different animal than a regular MM5. I'll check the weight I have it set at and report back.

  • Re: Distortion Problem, Beogram 1800

I don't think that's the problem, but maybe I'm wrong. The Beogram 1800 is connected to a Musical Fidelity V-LPS phono stage, which in turn is connected to an Anthem TLP-1 preamp and a B&K ST-140 power amp.

  • Distortion Problem, Beogram 1800

I have a Beogram 1800 with a rebuilt MMC5 (Alex did it). On some of my records, the loudest parts of vocals are distorted. Any thoughts on a possible cause?

  • Re: Rebuilt MMC5 and Tracking

Thanks for the feedback. Interestingly enough, Axel said he thought 1.5g would be fine, but that I could go UP to 2g.

  • Rebuilt MMC5 and Tracking

I just had my MMC5 rebuilt by Axel, and now that it has a new aluminum cantilever, elliptical diamond, and rebuilt suspension, I'm wondering whether I should change the tracking force on my Beogram 1800. I currently have it set at 1.5 g. Thoughts?

  • Re: Checking and adjusting belt tension

Okay. One reason I ask about belt tension is because I had had to loosen the screw holding down the pulley in the corner to move it slightly back. Before I did that, the pulley itself was rubbing against some adjacent plastic. I'm guessing that when the belt needs to be replaced, this screw is loosened and the pulley is moved forward toward the

  • Checking and adjusting belt tension

Sorry if this is an obvious one, but how do I check the belt tension on a Beogram 1800 (type 58xx), and if it's too loose or tight, adjust it?

  • Re: Eureka! Almost. . .

Thanks, Chris (and everyone else). On a somewhat related note, does anyone have a copy of the owner's manual for the 1800 that they can share? I found one on Beomanuals.com, but the scan is poor quality/borderline illegible.

Okay, no used cartridges. Does anyone know of a person in the U.S. who rebuilds B&O cartridges? Also, can I get away with a natural bristle artist's brush for dry cleaning the stylus?

  • Re: Eureka! Almost. . .

Thanks Graham, I was considering a Sound-Smith cartridge, but then was also wondering about trying to find a used original B&O model of a lower number than my MMC5. I guess the risk with going used is not knowing what you're getting. . . And Chris, regarding the tracking force, my Beogram is already set at 1.5 g. Would I still need to go through
