Not an easy question! I use Sky+ and it works like a dream in both the main room and link rooms. I would consider a recordable DVD/HDD player - Philips and Panasonic seem to keep the same codes and will work via a DVD controller. My Panasonic will no doubt have been replaced but has a digital tuner as well as DVD recorder and HDD and works moderately
