There are high quality manufacturers in China as well as those most people think of when asked. The significant number of high quality consumer electronics are manufactured in this region whether you like/know it or not. China

soundproof: I think the last poster has many valid and important points. I will, though, point out that my choices in car, boat and place to live are not informed by how "inexpensively" I can do any of these. The computers I use, the phones I call people up with, the cutlery in the kitchen and the art on the wall all carry a price premium
