Probably the sensors are not making contact properly with the glass. There is a square on the underside of the glass where the sensor must be against for it to work. Often when the glass becomes a bit loose or not fitted properly the sensors won't work. So if your sensor isn't touching the square there is no contact, Also note because the glass

Very interesting, due to it's age I would have thought it would not be able to play them. All the better for you that it does though.
