Perth is rather remote!! Even the Scottish one! He can send the CDX2 to me if you want and I will forward it on! You can tell him to sell the 5000 again though to be honest these are not very popular! shame as the amplifier in them is a real cracker!

Have you downloaded the service manual? There is a good flow chart section in there.

That is a very nice 4000 on eBay. However lots of less good ones appear and many do not work. I would get one of those making sure it has the bits you want! They are not that uncommon despite what the ad says!

Right! One service manual scanned and loaded! You had better download it now!! Even has a bit about the torsion spring though it mentions a tool which is no doubt unavailable! As with most of these older manuals, nicely detailed and lots of circuit diagrams as well as basic adjustments to the arm etc. Don't however be fooled by the nice simple exploded

Actually it would not surprise me. I am of the opinion that ICE = good and A/B = bad is simply not true! A/B amplifiers are now refined to the nth degree . However I imagine that the decision was made also for marketing reasons as one has to justify the extra money for the Beolab 5s as well. Luckily for me, the best jewellers in Newcastle are opposite

soundproof: YET - the B&O engineers did change the amplifiers for the mid and top of the BL9s from regular ICE-amps to hybrids, ostensibly to achieve an even greater verisimilitude in the reproduction of sound. We do have the service manual for this model but I would suggest that it won't get you very far! I think this needs to be seen by the service department.
