On the Beolink 1000, with the system in stand by, try pressing SOUND 1 STORE. It may be that the transceiver is switched off.

Sounds to me that the Pentas need an service. You need to work out which bit. You can use them as passives by taking the amplifier off the bottom and there is simply a two wire connection to the cross over. Try using the BM7000 as the amplifier and see what you think. If it sounds the same or worse, try changing the components in the cross over. Obviously

Probably the motor - The CD spins faster as the laser tracks inwards - constant velocity of the medium rather than the platter and the motor will be limiting the speed - at a guess. Needs a service!
