It is important that the lamp flickers at 50 (100hz) this means a standard tungsten filament lamp should be used. A traditional ballast flo tube would be ok but not modern electronically controlled stuff.

Well, unless someone has done so in the past they should not be glued! They can feel very stiff. I carefully ease the panels off at each peg a little at a time... I have heard it mention to spray silicon oil in the pegs but never tried with the grills on.

I had a similar problem to this (can't remember the exact details but certian strikes a chord!) and it turned out to be the small leaf spring associated with the worm drive from the tracking motor. If incorrectly seated by a small amount the worm is not able to disengage and causes all manner of trouble!

Sorted out 3 Beomaster 6000's over last 4 weeks and the last one was great until the last check, when an led segment seemed to have dissapeared! Knew it was not drys as I had checked and sorted these, so the next most likely culprit was the display :( So, stripped it down and then decided to take some pics as I went along! Pretty small you can see

Have you never tried just cleaning the relay contacts? Not sure what the long term life span is but I mine has been ok ever since!
