Can be the battery that is dead.

Also take into account that the Pentas are getting old. I have the MK3 Pentas in storage, and I haven't used them for years, however, the last time I used them they were getting less precise sound wise IMHO compared to when they were new. They are about 12 years old. Very little used, but i think the drivers degrade with time, and might be a factor

About the BL5 and other ALT speaker placement, bare with me, as I probably don't use the correct words to describe this... So the speakers should be placed on a 90 degree axis to the walls behind them? And not be "toed in" towards the listener, which is very common to be used with traditional speakers?

Much is up to the dac used. The Beosounds/centers have the pre-amp stage, so there will be differences in the sound. Now how much and will it be better/worse is much up to personal preference.
