I can see I will have to scan the 8000 manual now!!

There are a few differences - the PCBs are simplified with some of the settling and control circuits being integrated onto the main board. The service manual for the 8002 does include the 8000 and 6006 but there is a separate manual for just the 8000 which shows that some circuits do differ. The 8002 if anything looks slightly more complex - though

Never seen one but apparently the sensor is the same essentially as an MCL sensor. Will need hard wiring in so you will need some technical know how! The WorkBench lot might be able to help!

Are the switches on the Pentas set correctly? You need the bottom switch set to Audio and the speaker switches set to L and R as required.

If the 9000 is by itself in the main room with 8000s attached, it should be set to option 1. The link room should be option 6.

Agreed! The cassette in the 9500 has the following features lacking in the 9300: 1. Dolby B/C - the 9300 has generic NR only (it is in fact Dolby B though Dolby is not mentioned!!) 2. Auto Dolby - it will recognise which NR a recorded tape uses and switch automatically. 3. Manual recording level - you can over ride the auto recording level - not possible

You don't use L.Opt to set the Option as you will need to press Link each time. Just use A.Opt and set it to 6.

I know we have spoken about this before - and your stylus may be a special one - but the MMC20CL-C is normally just the version ith the Universal Connector. There is also a 1/2" model.

I would get the 9500 - indeed that is the one I have! I wouldn't get a 9000 - too old and lacks features - and I wouldn't get a 9300 as it loses too much compared to the 9500 and is no more reliable.
