Styluses are no problem and this deck has a built in RIAA so will work with all the modern equipment. Clearly its purpose was to play6 CD4 records but it plays stereo ones as well as any of the 4002 decks. The Soundsmith SMMC20CL will allow you to play CD4 records - if you can find any! - and apart from being black instead of silver, is a fine match

I agree. to be successful during what looks as if it will be a recession, B&O have to offer something that is unique, and repackaged products will not be enough. Products akin to the Beosound 9000 and AV9000 which stood out as something different are needed. I do hope the Beosound 5 will be such a product - but I am not sure!

I would just use it. You have to get up to change the record so remote control is not all it is cracked up to be with Beograms. I use a 4000 with my 5500 system as I prefer it and it is not remote control.

Tim Jarman repaired mine. These are wonderful decks but if you are not going to use it, why bother? It can be used as a very superior audio tape recorder as well of course. However these are complex machines and tracing the fault can be time consuming and hence expensive.

Look at page 70/71 in the reference manual - I wonder if setting the Sound System to stereo and then altering the output to the speakers will make a difference. If not, consider some headphones like my wife's Sennheisser HDR140s which are wireless and have balance and volume controls on the headphones.

Agree with Craig. Datalink uses a 7 pin DIN and the turntable will need the Datalink board and this will need to be adapted to work the non B&O control mechanism. I didn't know Sharp used DIN plugs though. I wonder if it is non DIN standard and if it uses the two pins that are redundant for some kind of Sharp communication language. Is it supposed

A few do - they are sometimes on eBay - and the Philips Pronto does - but is not cheap. I would suggest getting a Beolink 1000 - can be used as a club at an Irish wedding and still turn the music on and off.

The faulty mute relay commonly affects just one speaker - the 5500 does just the same!

I take it that you mean a Beosystem 5500. The stacking system. The drive units for the CX is still available from a B&O dealer and is not that expensive. I think they are less than £30.
