Please let us know how it sounds to you. I have tried exactly what you are going to do and had a mixed opinion on the results. However, I have. Never left the 7.1 setup in place long enough to really give it a fair test.

We have used a Sony with both our previous BV7-40 and our current BV7-55 and I have had some problems. Ours works fine if I turn the TV on using the DVD button on the Beo 4 or the Blu-Ray icon on our Beo 5. We have had Path repair our B and O televisions and I am sure you will be very happy with the work they will do. As for replacing the speakers with something newer, I would say listen to the new speakers from B and O and see what you think. The current 8000s are very highly regarded. Some posts here have discussed the update that replaces the clock with the words Bang and Olufsen at start up. Is that a feature absent from US TVs? We had a 7-40 mkIII and now have a 7-55 and have never had a clock at startup? If we updated the software on the 7-55 would we have the B and O logo? Thanks!

I tried the S-Video both with the satellite box and with a DVD player. Same problem with both. The picture through the S-Video is mostly black and white snow, although through the snow it is possible to see the faint outline of the picture rapidly moving from top to bottom repeatedly. I think our avant must need some major repairs, or replacement.
